Major Cooking Gas Crisis Hits Aden on Eid’s First Day: Citizens Sleep in Cars to Secure Cylinders
Aden, Yemen’s interim capital, is witnessing a severe cooking gas crisis on the first day of Eid al-Adha, Friday, as long lines of cars stretch in front of gas filling stations since Thursday night.
Many citizens reported spending the night in their vehicles to avoid missing their turn due to limited gas supplies and the absence of an organized distribution schedule.
“I spent the entire night in my car outside a gas station in Al-Mualla,” one resident said, “I wasn’t the only one — dozens of others stayed too, afraid to lose their chance.”
The shortage comes amid sweltering heat and continued power outages, making households more reliant on gas for cooking and food storage.
Meanwhile, black market prices have skyrocketed, with small gas cylinders selling for over 10,000 Yemeni riyals, putting added strain on low-income families.
Social groups have called for immediate intervention by local authorities and gas distributors to regulate fair and adequate distribution, warning of worsening humanitarian conditions if the crisis continues..
