In a moment of sorrow, Yemen’s cultural and media landscape has lost one of its most iconic voices, as Fuad Hassan Hammiri, former Deputy Minister of Information and celebrated poet, passed away on Thursday in an Istanbul hospital due to kidney failure, at the age of 47.

According to sources close to the family, the funeral prayer will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2025, immediately after Dhuhr prayer at Ihsan Murat Mosque near the Kristal Sehir complex in Istanbul. Burial will follow at the Kilyos Cemetery.

President of Yemen’s Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, extended condolences to Hammiri’s family, hailing his lifelong dedication to the republic’s values and his cultural and political contributions.

The Ministry of Information also released an official statement mourning Hammiri as a "national and cultural figure", emphasizing his resistance to the Houthi coup through word, poetry, and public service.

Born in Taiz, Hammiri was widely known for his powerful poetry and political activism, standing as a defender of freedom and republican values even under pressure and threats. His death leaves a significant void in Yemen’s intellectual and political spheres.
