Amjad Khaled Leads Terror Cell Linked to Houthis and Al-Qaeda: Yemeni Security Forces Foil Major Plot
President of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council and Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces, Dr. Rashad Mohammed Al-Alimi, chaired a high-level security meeting in Aden on Saturday, alongside Prime Minister Salem bin Brik and senior military and intelligence officials, to assess anti-terror efforts across liberated provinces.
According to detailed security reports presented during the meeting, a major terrorist network was dismantled in Taiz province. The network was reportedly led by Amjad Khaled, a former commander in the Transport Brigade, and had direct links with Houthi leaders as well as operatives from Al-Qaeda and ISIS.
Investigations revealed that Khaled was in direct coordination with prominent Houthi figures, including Muhammad Abdul Karim Al-Ghamari and Abdul Qadir Al-Shami. The network was implicated in several high-profile assassinations and bombings, including the killing of WFP official Moayad Hamidi and the attempted assassination of Aden Governor Ahmed Lamlas.
Security forces uncovered explosive-laden vehicles, bomb-making factories, and visual documentation of planned attacks. Evidence also confirmed espionage activities in favor of the Houthi militia.
The High Security Committee ordered the pursuit of fugitive members of the cell, coordination with friendly nations and INTERPOL, and endorsed urgent measures to boost counter-narcotics operations and launch national awareness campaigns against extremist ideologies.
