Israeli Analysts Call for "Cold War" with Egypt: “The Next War Should Be with Cairo”
In a striking escalation of rhetoric, Israeli analysts have sparked controversy by calling for a shift in relations with Egypt—from what they called a “cold peace” to a “cold war.” The remarks were made during a panel discussion aired by the Israeli TV channel i24news, reflecting growing tensions in the region.

Tsvi Yehezkeli, a prominent analyst of Arab affairs, claimed that Egypt is taking increasingly bold stances against Israel. “The Egyptian street has never been a friend of Israel,” he said, adding, “After Iran, Egypt should be next.” When asked directly whether the next war might involve Egypt, Yehezkeli replied, “It should be.”

The panel featured several well-known figures, including media personality Edy Cohen, Middle East expert Ruth Wasserman Landa, strategist Yoni Ben Menachem, and former officer Eli Dekel, who criticized Egypt's activities in Sinai, warning, “That might be our next big mistake.”

These comments come amid the ongoing war in Gaza and Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire. Analysts warn that such aggressive discourse could deepen regional instability and signal a shift in Israel’s strategic posture toward its Arab neighbors.
