Syrian President Ahmed al-Shar‘a Delivers Historic 50-Second Speech at Doha Summit
At the extraordinary Arab-Islamic summit in Doha, Syrian President Ahmed al-Shar‘a delivered one of the shortest yet most symbolic speeches in the history of regional summits, lasting just 50 seconds.

Al-Shar‘a cited a verse by the pre-Islamic poet Amr ibn Barraqa al-Hamdani: “When the wise heart and a sharp sword unite… with noble pride, injustice will avoid you.” The line was seen as a call for unity, wisdom, and dignity to confront oppression.

He further remarked, “It is among history’s rare moments when the negotiator is killed, and the mediator is targeted,” in reference to Israeli strikes that hit Palestinian leaders during mediation efforts hosted by Qatar.

Reaffirming Syria’s solidarity with Qatar, al-Shar‘a highlighted that Gaza has been under Israeli assault for two years, while Syria has endured ongoing Israeli attacks for nine months.

Observers described the speech as “a few words with great meaning,” noting that it might go down in history as a rare example of political brevity and clarity.
