Mareb Launches Local Strategy for Women’s Empowerment
The "Local Strategy for Women in Mareb" conference was held in Mareb Governorate, organized by the Mareb Girls Foundation in collaboration with the American Democratic Institute. The event saw the participation of 97 individuals, including men and women, representing local authorities, political parties, and civil society organizations.
The conference, held under the slogan "Towards a Strong Local Strategy to Strengthen Women’s Role in Mareb," commenced with a speech by Dr. Abdurabbih Muftah, Deputy Governor. He expressed his gratitude to the supporting organizations, emphasizing that the conference marks a significant achievement for women in Mareb. Dr. Muftah affirmed the local authority’s commitment to supporting the outcomes of the conference and integrating them into its strategic plans.
He also commended the critical role played by women in Mareb society over the past years, particularly in overcoming the challenges imposed by the war. He stressed that women would be key partners in developing the governorate’s strategic plans.
Saada Aqaar, Chairperson of the National Women’s Committee in Mareb, and Amal Dahwan, Deputy Director of the Health Office, highlighted the importance of the strategy as a clear reference for all entities working to advance women’s development. They emphasized the necessity of achieving gender equality in all areas.
Intisar Al-Qadi, President of the Mareb Girls Foundation, stated that the strategy aims to enhance women’s roles and expand their political participation based on a comprehensive analysis of women’s needs in the governorate.
The conference also reviewed the strategy’s components and standards, which focus on key areas such as education, healthcare, and economic participation.
In the concluding session, participants called for activating policies to support women, improving educational environments, expanding healthcare services, and promoting women’s involvement in various development sectors.
The event was attended by numerous community leaders and representatives of civil society organizations, reflecting the broad interest in addressing women’s issues in Mareb.
