Secret Deal Revealed: Houthis Approve Jewish Woman’s Departure from Yemen to Israel
Israel's Channel 10 has reported that the Houthi militia has allowed a 75-year-old Jewish woman—one of the last four Jews remaining in Yemen—to emigrate to Israel, in a rare and sensitive operation involving legal and religious coordination.
According to the report, the woman’s husband, Yehya Dawood, died of cholera in June 2024. Following his death and her deteriorating health, she agreed to leave the country, reportedly transiting through an undisclosed nation before reaching Israel.
Channel 10 noted that the Houthis permitted a traditional Jewish burial for the husband, with a limited number of attendees, including Houthi members, reflecting a rare moment of symbolic religious respect.
The operation was facilitated by Israeli lawyer Mordechai Tzivin, along with Jewish activists and rabbis from the U.S. and Europe. A prominent Israeli billionaire covered all travel and resettlement costs.
Only three Jews remain in Yemen, according to the report: two siblings living in seclusion, and a third currently detained.
