UK Launches New Technical Support Initiative and £5 Million Humanitarian Aid for Yemen
The UK Minister for the Middle East and North Africa, Hamish Falconer, announced a new initiative to support the Yemeni government's technical capacity vision (TAFFY) through the launch of the Donor Partners Secretariat for Yemen’s Flexible Technical Assistance Facility.
Speaking at the international ministerial meeting held to rally support for the Yemeni government, which was organized in partnership with the UK government, Falconer explained that the initiative involves the deployment of technical advisors to support Yemen’s governmental reform program in political sectors. The UK-led (TAFFY) program aims to provide a coordinated approach for international partners to deliver capacity support and expertise.
Falconer also announced new support for Yemen, including a £5 million increase in humanitarian aid, which will allow tens of thousands of Yemenis to access food, shelter, and medical supplies.
Additionally, Falconer confirmed the UK’s continued support for the Yemeni Coast Guard, including training and facilitating the launch of the Yemen Maritime Security Partnership, (TAFFY Yemen), next month, which will be implemented under the program.
During the conference, Falconer emphasized that the Yemeni government had presented a clear and unified vision for the country’s future and expressed the UK’s readiness to lead international efforts to support (TAFFY). He called on the international community to join in providing both political and financial support for this initiative, which was established in January 2025, focusing on deploying technical advisors to assist the Yemeni government's reform program. The program provides a coordinated platform for international partners to offer support and expertise.
The UK is the third-largest humanitarian donor to the Yemen Humanitarian Response Plan, providing £144 million in aid in 2024 and committing over £1.5 billion since 2015.
