Yemeni Missile Disrupts Israeli State Cup Final, President Herzog Evacuated
A missile launched from Yemen on Thursday night forced the suspension of the Israeli State Cup final between Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Beitar Jerusalem at Bloomfield Stadium in Tel Aviv, causing panic among thousands of spectators and prompting the evacuation of President Isaac Herzog.
According to Israeli media, air raid sirens sounded across central Israel shortly after the match began. Yedioth Ahronoth reported that fans were instructed to lie flat on the ground as part of emergency protocol. The game was halted just ten minutes into the first half.
The match later faced another interruption due to racist chants from some supporters in the stands.
The Israeli military confirmed in a brief statement that a single missile launched from Yemen was successfully intercepted, and flights at Ben Gurion Airport were temporarily suspended.
The incident underscores the expanding reach of Yemeni missiles and highlights the increasing volatility of the region amid the ongoing conflict.
