Canada Adds Iran's Revolutionary Guard to Terrorist Organizations List

The Canadian government has added Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) to the list of terrorist organizations under the Criminal Code. This decision coincides with escalating tensions between the two countries and increasing calls for Canadian citizens to leave Iran.

In a press conference, Canadian Public Safety Minister Dominic LeBlanc stated that this decision resulted from the Iranian regime's support for terrorism and its continuous human rights abuses. He noted that the decision strengthened Ottawa's pressure on Tehran and focused legal and diplomatic efforts to isolate the Revolutionary Guard on the international stage.

LeBlanc emphasized that the decision came as a result of the Iranian regime's support for terrorism, its ongoing disregard for human rights both within Iran and internationally, and its readiness to destabilize the rules-based international order.

Canadian Foreign Minister Mélanie Joly mentioned that Ottawa had severed diplomatic relations with Tehran since 2012. She advised Canadians to avoid traveling to Iran and for those currently in Iran to return home.
